Mother, Baby's Skin Can Also Get Acne
Acne in infants is a common skin condition and the cause is uncertain. Often, acne appears when a baby is 2-4 weeks old, but can also occur when a new baby is born. This condition is temporary and in most cases it can heal on its own without treatment. But there is no harm in taking several steps to speed up healing treatment. In some babies, acne can last longer for months, while others may disappear in a matter of weeks.
As with acne in general, baby acne is also in the form of white or red nodules that can be surrounded by reddish skin. Its appearance can be on the forehead, chin, cheeks, or back. The reddish color of pimples becomes apparent when the baby is fussy, body temperature rises, spit up after feeding, or the effects of clothes that are washed using hard detergent.
Mother, do not use any anti-acne products, lotions, or facial wash soap on the skin of acne prone babies. This is because baby's skin is very sensitive so the product can make acne worse or cause additional irritation. As a treatment step, you can do the following things.
Apply the cream or ointment to clear acne according to the doctor's prescription
In some cases, doctors may recommend the use of a one percent hydrocortisone cream or colloidal solution containing silver ions. Hydrocortisone cream is for dry, itchy, and sometimes painful skin due to severe baby acne.
Meanwhile, colloidal solutions are generally considered to be safer than hydrocortisone creams because of their effect which can kill dead bacteria and soothe itchy skin. Both types of this cream should only be applied in small amounts and a maximum of twice a day for two days.
Keep your baby's face clean
Wash the baby's face with warm water while bathing it, just once a day. When washing his face, use a soft cloth or sponge. If using soap, choose baby soap that is mild and contains moisturizer. Do not carelessly use adult soap, especially anti-acne soap, because the formula is too hard for your sensitive skin. If in doubt, ask for recommendations from your pediatrician. Stop using soap if your baby's skin turns red or if the pimple actually gets worse.
After washing your face, gently pat her face with a clean towel to dry. Likewise after a baby suckles, when he sweats, or when his skin is wet, dry his skin with a clean towel slowly.
Avoid using lotion on the face
Do not apply lotion, especially oily lotion, on baby's skin with acne because it can make acne worse. Some parents report that the use of certain non-oil creams in baby acne helps to overcome these skin problems. If you try this type of cream, monitor the development of your baby's acne condition. If the condition worsens, stop using the cream immediately.
Don't squeeze pimples in any condition
Squeezing a pimple is an action that can make matters worse.
